DesertRose Consultants LLC was honored to be selected as part of a curriculum development initiative led by the Ethnic Studies Education team within the Utah State Board of Education’s Teaching & Learning Department.

This project was funded by the Title IV, Part A: Stronger Connections Grant to support the Ethnic Studies Literacy Project.

In this collaborative effort, DesertRose Consultants LLC worked alongside a dynamic team of community experts to curate and develop educational resources focused on African Americans, Africans, and members of the African diaspora.

Our role involved researching, writing, and designing classroom-ready materials aligned with Utah’s core academic standards.

As part of the project, we assisted and helped:

  • Curate and develop lesson plans, books, and classroom resources that integrate African American history, culture, and contributions.

  • Helped provide web content for the Utah Education Network (UEN) to expand access to high-quality ethnic studies materials.

  • Provided both background resources for teachers and primary and secondary sources for students.

  • Contributed to creating and updating UEN webpages related to ethnic studies, ensuring cultural and historical accuracy.

Our team’s work addressed resource gaps identified in the first phase of the project and provided valuable tools for K–12 educators statewide. These efforts support teachers in meeting Utah’s ethnic studies requirements while fostering student engagement through culturally relevant content

The project goals for the team Included:

  • Helping educators connect Utah’s ethnic studies standards to national and global perspectives.

  • Expanding access to vetted, standards-aligned resources for use in the classroom.

  • Strengthening ties between ethnic studies topics and local communities.

The project was successfully completed on June 15, 2025, and we are proud to have contributed to this meaningful initiative aimed at enriching ethnic studies education across Utah schools.
